Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
